ShriMann Madhwacharya Education Society

The Society was founded in 1987 in the small town of Bagalkote, which was part of the Bijapur (now Vijayapura) district in the northern part of Karnataka.

Anticipating the massive relocation and displacement that would happen due to the scale of the Upper Krishna project, which was already in design stage at that time, the visionary couple Mr Satyadhyanachar and Mrs Ushabai Malagi decided to start a center wherein skills can be imparted to the people affected due to the project.

Mr. Satyadhyanachar Malagi chose to move out of his comfortable job at Karnataka State Road Transport and decided to devote his time towards building an organisation that can impart skills that can earn livelihoods to the rural population.

Under the watchful guidance of her husband, Mrs Ushabai Malagi started to train and impart skills to women from the neglected strata of the society… She started the Notebook Binding project wherein skills were imparted to destitute women and these skilled women were also given a chance to earn livelihood at the Notebook production centre.. This was a scheme that was very well appreciated by governments of that time- cutting across political affiliations.

Eventually this led to the start of the Industrial Training Institute, ITI College. Herein poor rural students get a chance to learn technical trades viz; welder, electrician, fitter, draughtsman, etc… Thus enabling them to get immediate employment and also a chance to purse their education to become skilled engineers.

Since there is no use of the Skill developed unless there is a self-realisation of the individual potential, Accordingly, Shrimann Madhwacharya Education Society was based on the philosophies and teachings of the great saint and philosopher from 13th century, the Pūrṇa-Prajña Shrimann Madhwacharya….chief proponent of the Dvaita (dualism) school of Vedanta ( वेदान्त,   means ‘conclusion of the Vedas,’ and encompasses the ideas that emerged from, or aligned/reinterpreted, the enumerations contained in the Upanishads, focusing, on learning towards self-realisation of the Supreme (Reality) knowledge).
